Ex-Washington Redskin wants to bring sports to space
The game would be called Float Ball. It would combine elements of basketball, football and the Lionel Richie video for “Dancing on the Ceiling” into a sort of free-for-all, compelling weightless players to bounce off walls, obstacles and one another while herding weightless balls of various colors to either end of the playing...

In Defense of Marriage
Nice blend of nerdy and heartwarming… (especially nice when I feared some anti-Proposition 8 crap)
At any rate, here’s what nobody ever told me about being married and having a wife and maintaining a marriage, based on (an admittedly rather limited, compared to long successful marriages) a great three years.
It’s fun! You’ve got somebody you like who goes with...

Once the option is turned on, start typing a phone number into Chat’s search box and you’ll see the option to send an SMS.
If you already have your friend’s phone number stored in your Google account’s contacts, try searching for them by name. When your friend’s name appears in the drop-down list of contacts, you’ll see an option to send them an SMS. You can also...
Sync
marco:
Fraser Speirs nails the problems with multi-computer sync, concluding:
It leaves me a bit glum that we, as an industry, have pushed on this for so long and are still hurting users daily with complexity and failure.
I’ve also been very disappointed with sync, although not enough to give up the incredible performance and capacity of my home and work Mac Pros. Until I can get an...

I love Billion Dollar Charlie. I see him driving his moped around campus all the time… when he’s not smoking up, teaching a class in second life, or playing poker.

Am I too tall? Is she tall enough? Will she be able to balance in those heels?
Wow. Her legs are skinny. Not bad skinny, but when light hits them just below the hem in her dress make them look amazing, skinny. I’ve got to quit staring.
I can’t. Quit. Staring.
Its as if I’ve never seen legs before. Like ever. I’ve had fun at weddings before, but this is a...

The Unfinished Swan, an in-development game that you navigate through by making black splatters on the all-white walls. A really clever mechanic, as illustrated by the video.
It gets really creepy halfway through.
Very creative.
Tumblr Strategy
shutupinternet:
I began using Tumblr back in April and since then I’ve noticed some obvious strategies if you’re a tumblr trying to get reblogs, make the Radar/Tumblr Explore, and gain the maximum amount of followers.
There is obviously the Obama/Chuck Palahniuk/Cute Animal/Anti-Palin strategy where every user and their mother jumps on your post for a reblog because you’re just that cool....

Dallas FTW!
I’m going to be traveling today, heading out to California for a speaking engagement tomorrow at Claremont-McKenna’s Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum and then Thursday at UCLA’s Burkle Center. I’m sitting at the airport right now and there’s a flight listed as bound for “Dallas-FTW” illustrating that someone at American Airlines is not aware of all internet traditions.

straight white men are entirely irrelevant
literagation:
sure, the entire nation has watched with frustration at the comeuppance of the straight white male masters of the universe and the ineptitude of SWM government to calm the crisis; but i get to watch that with the added bonus of futily asking another group of middle aged SWMs with gigantic egos about the crisis’ legal implications, who just ignore me or patronize me. and then ask...
New theme
Well, new to me. Graph paper 1.0. Not sure I like it.
Making it a goal to design my own theme sometime in the next 6 months.\

Help.
Aren’t Buffalo routers supposed to be a bit more reliable (and expensive) than the $40 Linksys ones? At least some are also DD-WRT flashable.
My anecdotal experience has been great - there’s one running in my house with an uptime of +6 months (no frustrated phone calls from the parents). Don’t know the model offhand though…

It’s the Ultimate Guide to Pairing Alcohol and Literature.
This is actually really interesting. I’d love to see this as a feature in a monthly magazine. Like, the writer would dissect the text and recommend, or get recommendations from a master sommelier in regards to what would work best with Light in August or what would most compliment The Unconsoled.

To tax or not?
squashed:
There has been some interesting discussion on the increasingly high percentage of people who pay little or no federal taxes. Should this be the case? If you are making $15,000 a year, should you have to sign over miniscule small portion of that to the federal government as a gesture? Would it matter if the effort of collecting that portion is larger than the revenue it would...
