Beer of the week
312 Urban Wheat by Goose Island. Had it last night at Little Bar, and it was the best part of a pretty tame evening. Goose Island seems to be the most popular craft brewery around here, have also had their Honkers + IPA at other Columbus bars… all pretty solid.

Finding Balance.
liinmiami: I live, eat, breath teaching.  I’m tired of being a teacher, of taking a break from grading to plan, of relaxing by looking up chemistry experiments online.  I’m tired of having no identity other than Ms. Enumah the chemistry teacher.  Everytime you move to a new place, you have the chance to reinvent yourself a little, and so far my reinvented me is a very one-sided character.  I...

2008: The Summer in Numbers
9 weeks on the road (of 10 weeks working) 27 nights in a hotel (20 of them in Starwood!) 34 nights in my own bed (48%!) $87 - my rent per night spent in my apartment (The view: priceless) 27 flight segments (and god knows how many delays) 26,176 miles flown (plus ~15,000 for west coast trips in the spring!) 119,865 “points” accumulated (frequent flyer, hotel...

TinySong →
mrgan: Type in a song name, get an instant list of results and a teeny URL to a stream of the song. Even beyond the sharing and recommendation potential of such a simple setup, this is the fastest way to just hear a song you don’t already have in iTunes. However, the difference between the search UI - simple, small, fast, pretty, no-nonsense - and the playback UI - convoluted, big, slow,...

Daring Fireball: Raining on the OpenClip Parade →
marco: John Gruber does a much more extensive article than I did on why OpenClip won’t last very long, including this gem: And, indeed, in the 2.1b4 release of the iPhone OS, [cross-app file-read prevention] is enforced. The OpenClip demo apps, which work as advertised on iPhone OS 2.0.2, do not work in the current 2.1 beta, because apps are no longer able to read or even see other apps’...

Crunch Time
liinmiami: Anyway, being there has been good but overwhelming. I am apparently replacing the best of the chemistry teachers, which puts some pressure on me. All of my five classes have between 33 and 38 students. Each class period is 2 hours long. And part of me wonders whether I know (or ever knew) enough chemistry to be qualified to teach it.  Not to mention, being without a paycheck for...

Dear iPhone Smart Keyboard
openletters: Quit being such a prude. You can’t possibly think I want to type the word “ducking” that often, so stop correcting me already. Profanity is a fact of life. Sincerely, saramcpherson Horribly frustrating, but still not as bad as using T9 (or iTAP) where you can’t even swear without a handful of extra button presses.
