Is there a thing on the Internet that would allow me to compress articles that run longer than one page on websites that don’t offer a “single page” option?
I want to be able to put these articles on Instapaper and the only way to do it now is to scroll through each page and add each one individually. It may not seem like a huge inconvenience, but I promise I won’t be reading any New...

Ian is a smart cookie when it comes to games, and you should really read his piece explaining why he made this unholy thing. He goes on to mention that this is a kind of satire, but it’s more than that - it’s something he cleverly calls …

Not a “sic” - the URL originally had a “the” which disappeared in 2005 when they bought the articleless domain.

Japan Trip Days 1-5: Tokyo + Kamakura
See photos on Facebook.
Some random notes to go with the pictures:
Flying to Japan was not nearly as bad as I had expected. But I sleep well on planes (the BOS-SFO redeyes trained me well).
Narita airport (in Tokyo) has an infared camera pointed at the crowd headed towards customs, that they use to detect feverish people to put in quarantine. I can’t tell if this is the most awesome...

I’ve long believed that this is a thing that needs to happen way more often with singers. In fact, I’d pay to watch an entire feature film, spanning all kinds of musicians and all kinds of karaoke bars, premised on this very idea. (Would Ke$ha impress no one? Would Bonnie Tyler reduce people to tears? Justin Timberlake?!) It’s like the Joshua Bell story on steroids. Relatedly: if anyone...

At the very heart of winged flight lies the banked turn, a procedure that by now seems so routine and familiar that airline passengers appreciate neither its elegance and mystery nor its dangerously delusive character.

Who doesn’t love lists?
I don’t love them when slightly shitty beers (sorry, Flying Dog) get top billing! I think the ratings in the 2005 article are more reasonable, but I’ve also been a bit Oskar Blues-obsessed lately.

The Federal Reserve will have authority to regulate credit and debit card swipe fees. So that extra 3% (or so) hidden tax that you’re paying on all your purchases to fatten the credit card companies may eventually be reduced. (This doesn’t have huge implications for keeping the ship afloat. It’s just a really nice thing. Like free drinks in the grand saloon.)
