Neven Mrgan's tumbl: Mystery →

The better the puzzle in a mystery story, the worse the resolution. Is this always true?

I understand that this is a controversial, vague, overbroad generalization. But let’s consider some popular mysteries. So, do you know of any straight-up mysteries with satisfying endings?

Mrgan uses Lost to talk about mysteries in general. His hypothesis — the best puzzles have “groaner” endings — is a really good one, and something Lost has made me think about a lot.

Some movies that might be the exception to the rule (great mystery, great ending):

  • The Sixth Sense
  • The Usual Suspects

Any others?
