mris tell you how to vote, and now, how to convict! →

don’t get me wrong. i love mris. i especially like experiment design with fmris as it relates to decision-making.

what i don’t like is assuming that when colors light up it must mean “that is what anger is” or “he must be guilty.” there are other nuanced things to consider. when jonah lehrer came here (a topic for another post) he mentioned that one of his biggest pet peeves as a science writer was how people “magicked up” mri data. i completely agree - nowadays, interpretation of the results is so much more important to the outcome than the results themselves. and this still holds true for rigorous interpretation.
